Ever have moments of empowerment?

I went to pick up a guitar last night and met some new people that are just super people. Anyway, this guy named Jake asked if he could pray over me and while he was praying I just felt this empowerment. Like a spiritual high I guess you could say. Not only were his words uplifting, I felt the spirit of God move upon and within me in a new way. I don’t know exactly what it was, but the song “Nothing’s Gonna Hold Me Back” by Jesus Culture could most definitely be my theme song right now. I know as Christ followers we go through cycles of relationship and growth, but I feel that something within me is different. Some barrier within myself has been torn down. I’m excited to see what God will be doing through me in the future. I feel something is coming. I’m not sure what, but something. It’s gonna be good.

Soap tonight

tonight, I was journaling and upon reading the last verse of John, I was captured. he said this is just some of the stuff Jesus did and if all the things done were written down it probably couldn’t be contained by the whole earth. now you can say what you want about us having microchips in this age, but have you really tried to wrap your head around that? WOW! 1)that John literally said the world isn’t big enough to write down all Jesus did. He did that much! 2)to really think about how enormous the exchange that actually happened when Jesus died with our sins and rose from the grave! by most peoples standards, I am not a bad guy, I think most people would say i’m a pretty good guy, but to completely and accurately give account of what took place between just Jesus and me would be enough that entering it into a data processor and saving would probably require an external hard drive! just think about that for billions of people! how much happened in that weekend! holy cow! I can’t get my head around it it’s so huge! I work at a credit union. if you have an account, you can come see me and get a detailed printout of account activity. for each of us to get that from when Jesus was crucified with our sins would be such a large document that I don’t know if it really could be contained! this is just ONE thing Jesus did that affected everyone since that day. granted, this is why He came, but can you imagine trying to give a full detailed account of everything Jesus did, and how it affected people (because that was why he did it)? I really don’t know if it could be contained physically. now, if you’re curious how that applies to you, have you really thought about the profoundness of what happened just between you and Jesus some 2000 years ago? if so, are you sharing it with others? because in the same enormous way it has impacted your life, it can theirs! if it hasn’t had an impact on how you think, speak, react, maybe you should go watch the scene in the passion of the Christ movie where Jesus is beaten mercilessly, where a crown of thorns is jammed down on his head and how he is mocked and beaten and physically wore out then hung on a cross, nails through his hands and feet and think that at that moment, Jesus who had done no wrong was put through all of that for you and everything you’ve done wrong and will do wrong were piled on him on top of the other things he endured. all for you and me and everyone else. really try to wrap your head around it that it was all for you and me. if it wasn’t for us being screw-ups, Jesus wouldn’t have gone through any of that. now, He went through that for You, and for the people You work with, so let them know about it to. maybe not so gruesomely, but let them see how it has impacted your life and keep an open line of communication and let them know that Jesus wants to do the same for them.

so, the last 4-5 months, I’ve been focusing on getting things together to get married. now that all that’s over with and were settled in, I thought I’d do a blog post. married life is incredible. I have an awesome woman who cooks, cleans, and just does a freakin awesome job of taking care of me in general. I have “guitar room” where all my gear stays and I can setup and play as much as I want. it’s fantastic. all the musicians at thebod have been given the summer off so we’ve been spending time visiting friends. today we saw Donnie at community bible church. i don’t do near as much in the evenings so I have time to spend time with my wife and practice guitar and everything. I’ve got some new gear and pretty well solidified my rig. I’m bummed out by not playing, and looking forward to getting back to it. hopefully I’ll get to fill-in some this summer. being married is a whole new set of challenges. bills to pay, a wife depending on me to being home the bacon so to speak, but I love being married. I love coming home to my wife every night. my posts will probably be spotty as they have been and less frequent. tht wraps this post up, until next time, see ya!

new stuff

So, I came to the realization this morning that it’s been 3 whole months since I’ve posted on here! Man, have I been busy! Over the last few months, I’ve attended Passion conference in Atlanta, Georgia, which was the most incredible thing I’ve been able to be a part of, we literally had a GLOBAL impact! A group of 22,000 give or take a few hundred college students raised 1.2million dollars for global missions…built border posts to stop sex trafficing, translated the bible into a new language, built wells in Africa, sent out bibles, and many other things. I also got a new job in February which I am enjoying. At TheBOD, they stopped the 5pm experience, so that team now leads every other week which is a huge change in dynamic from the other band. Both have a distinct style and they are very different, but it’s a nice change…I only have a month and a half left until my wedding, so I may not blog much between now and then because I’ve been super busy, but I’m excited about this coming week at TheBOD.tv it’s Easter sunday and we have an opportunity to reach out to people that don’t usually come, but come a couple times a year…the Easter/Christmas crowd, if you will. Hopefully we can grab some of those people and draw them in and let them experience God and have a life-canging experience. That’s what it’s all about.

I realize tht it’s the 2nd, but I wanted to reflect on here a bit. last night katee and I got to spend time with the browers. we hung out and played wii and ate and watched the ball drop. I feel blessed to have friends like them to hang with. we went to sleep and got up and went to my grandmas for lunch at noon, which was pretty uneventful, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing…from there we went to my house and I took a shower then my incredible fiancé helped me pack for passion 2010! let me tell you, my fiancé is a saint! she is SO supportive of everything I do even when nobody else has my back I can be sure that she will! I’m so excited about getting married in may an being able to go home to her every night! So, we got me packed and had a little time before we went back to her house to just sit and enjoy each other’s company…then we came to ft smith for stuff with her family. We ate…again…and sat around for a while and then she dropped me off at community bible church. she also ran me by walmart for a few last minute travel items I needed to pick up. anyway, she brought me on and dropped me off…that was almost 4 hours ago and were on the other side of Arkansas now and I miss her greatly…she gives so much selflessly, especially when she knows it will make me happy…it means more to me than she will ever be able to know or understand…I’ll also he the first to admit that I don’t always acknowledge and show thanks for it…but I’m going to do better! So, if you read this, now you’ve heard it again, I’m getting married to a saint! we are on our way to passion conference 2010 now and she was unfortunately not able to come…I really wish she could have. my friend Aaron has been after me to come for quite a while and made it extremely clear that if money is an issue he would be more than happy to help me out…which is another great blessing…not that he helped me out, because God has given me plenty, but that I have an awesome frien like that! we should be rolling into atlanta sometime around 9:30 and i’m pretty tired so I’m gonna get some rest. I’ll be on this week with some stuff about the conference and my thoughts. it’s 3:22am right now as I write these words to you, whoever is reading this…I am super excited about the weekend and ready to be back with katee too…I’m somewhat torn two ways so to speak…my heart is here to hear from God but also with her at home too…I miss her already, and look forward to seeing her again, and look forward to passion, and the. bringing stuff back to TheBOD! good night, J.R. Marriage thoughts and help

I was contemplating marriage and the movie fireproof which had me thinking about the book “the love dare” and was thinking about how and why that works. Then it hit me, the reason it works is 1)it teaches you to take an interest in doing the little things that make a difference and show your spouse that you’re still interested in them and 2)it helps you communicate by giving you numerous opportunities to talk by putting you in otherwise awkward situations if you don’t.
this also challenged me…no, I’m not married yet, but I don’t always do good about this. last night Katee came over and everybody had gone different places so we had about an hour or so without my family, so I cooked her supper and turned on some music and did all the small things that I realized I haven’t been doing and it was a great night of communication and we had alot of fun sitting down at the table and talking and eating.
I guess what I’m getting at is that any relationship requires work and attention to detail, whether it be a marriage, a friendship and even our relationship with God. if we don’t put in our part of the work needed, how can we expect someone else to.

Thanksgiving

I had a great time on thanksgiving. We ate 3 times…at nana’s, my grandma’s, and Katee’s families. I was beyond stuffed. WAAAY too much food! We wentand watched blindsided afterward and it was a great movie. Today I had a guy working at a store I was at tell me he thought my shoes were “tacky and he’d never wear them” which is nice since I didn’t ask his opinion. He did ask how I wear them. I explained that I put my foot in them and go…then he gave his opinion. I told him that’s okay and that it’s his opinion, not mine. The next few weeks I will have the opportunity of playing at the 5 o’clock experience at TheBOD and I’m super excited about that! I really like things here. I’m super excited about what God’s doing in the lives of the people at our church!

Day 1 youth convention

So today was the first day of the Oklahoma church of god state youth convention and worship tonight was incredible. It was an interesting morning. I had to go get my oil changed and then get back to Spiro to load up and head to Norman. We got there an setup and just had a little bit left when I found out we were expected to play an hour long concert. I listened to the songs twice and it was time for worship which went excellent. jD is a phenomonal worship leader. We went over the songs on acoustic then played and it went great. The speaker was awesome too! Speaking on debunking spiritual myths! Now were sitting in the room watching stupid videos on YouTube. Haha

Its been a while

So I thought I’d blog for a few minutes since I haven’t for quite a while. Friday night I went to see Dave crowder band at cain’s ballroom in Tulsa. It was freakin awesome! I was very inspired by the level of musicianship and their ability to actually mak the sounds themselves instead of playing with tracks. We had some fun and ate at mexicali’s. I had “stacked enchiladas” that weren’t enchiladas at all. It was pretty good though. This morning was pretty good at TheBOD. New message series “the ghost” was great. I’m excited about this coming weekend playing at the oklahoma church of god state youth convention with the beautiful chaos. That should be a good time at the Norman holiday inn convention center. Maybe I’ll get to hit guitar center. Hoping to have a little down time to catch up with some friends. I got a pedal endorsement with xotic effects. I’m ordering my ac plus tomorrow. Can’t wait to get it! Hopefully I’ll have it for the convention! I’m super pumped about that. I need to change my oil one night this week so hopefully my truck will make the trip up there. Maybe this will lead to more gigs and endorsements. I’m really glad Katee is getting to come. It will be a fun trip. Playing with a great group of guys. TheBOD had it’s first 5 o’clock experience today and I was told it went incredibly well. They had a great turnout. I just read David crowder’s new blog and enjoyed reading that his life is as crazy as mine…I loved that he used the I am t-pain app on stage for a vocal effect. I guess that’s all that’s in my head. Now I’ve unloaded. Bedtime soon.
